Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, jointly constructed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the first batch of "211 Project" construction. It is also a key university under the "985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" project. It is a multi-disciplinary and research-oriented university featuring information technology, taking engineering as the main body, and coordinating the development of engineering, management, arts and science. University is an important training base for information technology talents in China. In 2017, "Information Network Science and Technology Subject Group" and "Computer Science and Network Security Subject Group" entered the ranks of first-class discipline construction.
The school adheres to the guiding ideology of socialism with Chinese characteristics in Xi Jinping's new era, adheres to the fundamental task of Building Morality and people, and takes root in China to run a socialist university with Chinese characteristics. The school has always shouldered the national feelings of "the ten thousand miles of postal links". Since its establishment in 1955, after more than 60 years of construction and development, full-time school education has formed a school-running pattern with strong information background, distinctive professional characteristics and outstanding disciplinary advantages. The school now has Information and Communication Engineering College, Electronic Engineering College, Computer College, Automation College, Software College, Digital Media and Design Art College, Modern Postal College, Cyberspace Security College, Photoelectric Information College, Science College, School of Economics and Management, Humanities College, Marxist College, China. Eighteen teaching units, including International College, Network Education College, Continuing Education College, Ethnic Education College and Ministry of Sports, as well as three research institutes: Network Technology, Information Photonics and Optical Communication, Perception Technology and Industry, Trusted Network Communication 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center, and graduate school. At present, the discipline majors have covered 9 disciplines, including science, engineering, literature, law, economics, management, pedagogy, philosophy, art and other disciplines, involving 22 first-level disciplines. School information and communication engineering, computer science and technology, and Electronic Science and technology are three first-level disciplines in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, and they are classified as category A disciplines. Among them, information and communication engineering has achieved excellent results of A+.
The school currently has Xitucheng Road Campus, Shahe Campus, Hongfu Campus and Xiaoxitian Campus, with research institutes in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province and Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. There are nearly 23,000 full-time students, master students, doctoral students and overseas students, and nearly 55,000 officially registered part-time students.
In recent years, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications has focused on the country's major strategic needs, guided by the strategic goal of strengthening the country through network, followed the law of running higher education, and firmly established career-oriented thinking in accordance with the strategic thinking of "comprehensive reform and scientific development", and initiated the comprehensive reform of school education. In March 2008, the Ministry of Education officially announced that our school passed the "undergraduate teaching level evaluation" with "excellent" results, which marked that the quality of talent training in our school has stepped onto a new stage. In recent years, our school has selected 100 Excellent Doctoral dissertations, national excellent courses, Beijing excellent courses, national bilingual teaching demonstration courses, general higher education excellent textbooks, national teaching teams, Beijing excellent teaching teams, national education achievement awards, Beijing education achievement awards and other levels. Good results have been achieved in the work. For a long time, the employment rate of students in our university has maintained the leading level in universities all over the country. The major competitions of college students at home and abroad, represented by English, electronics, mathematics and physics competitions, have achieved excellent results and ranked in the forefront of key universities in China. For nine consecutive years, we have set up a University Students'innovation and entrepreneurship exhibition and forum, and a graduate students' innovation and entrepreneurship exhibition, which has made outstanding achievements in students'innovation and entrepreneurship practice activities.
—— Always adhere to the guiding ideology of running schools based on teachers, actively promote the "talent project", the talent team continues to grow, and the structure of teachers continues to optimize. At present, our school has an innovative team of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, foreign academicians, chief scientists of 973 projects, innovative research groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, innovative team development plan for scholars and innovative teams of the Yangtze River, scholars of the Yangtze River, thousands of people plan and millions of people in the new century. National-level candidates for talent project, national outstanding contribution experts, winners of National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, winners of "Trans-Century Outstanding Talents Program" of Ministry of Education, winners of "New Century Outstanding Talents Support Program", Beijing Outstanding Teaching Team, Beijing Science and Technology Stars, and "Youth Discipline Leader" at provincial and ministerial levels People, outstanding young backbone teachers at provincial and ministerial levels, government special allowance experts and national famous teachers are the backbone of the strong teaching staff. Teachers with doctoral and master's degrees accounted for 88% of the total number of full-time teachers, and nearly 100 foreign teachers.
—— Focusing on the construction of "211 Project" and "985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform", we will continue to strengthen discipline construction and further optimize discipline layout. At present, the school has 10 first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degree, 22 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degree (including 10 first-level disciplines), 7 types of professional master's degree authorized points, 43 undergraduate majors, and 6 post-doctoral research mobile stations. Discipline covers 9 disciplines, such as science, engineering, arts, law, philosophy, economy, management, education, art and so on. It has initially formed a multi-disciplinary discipline framework with prominent advantages of information disciplines and mutual support of engineering, management, arts and sciences. In the construction of key disciplines, there are 2 national key disciplines of first-level disciplines, 7 key disciplines of Beijing and 8 key disciplines at ministerial level.
—— We should strengthen the construction of bases and make sound progress in scientific research. Our school has several high-level research bases, such as the National Key Laboratory, the National Engineering Laboratory, the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, the National Defense Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education and the Subject Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base of the Ministry of Education. The school currently has two national key laboratories, five national engineering laboratories (two of which are leading and three are cooperating), two engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, five "111 Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Bases" of the Ministry of Education, one Beijing Laboratory and nine key laboratories at various ministerial levels. Based on the base construction and team construction, the scientific research work of our university shows a rapid growth trend in both quality and quantity. In recent years, it has won dozens of national science and technology invention awards, National Science and technology progress awards and provincial and ministerial research awards. At the same time, our university has built a national university science park, which has laid a good foundation for promoting the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
—— Strengthen international cooperation and exchanges, and further improve the level of international school-running. In 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, our university began to implement a joint bachelor's degree training program with Queen Mary College, University of London, and established the International College. In recent years, the International College has attracted wide acclaim in the whole society for its strict management and high-level personnel training quality. In 2011, the Confucius Institute was established in cooperation with the Pacific University of Jinan, Fiji. In 2017, the Cook Islands Confucius Classroom won the title of "Advanced Confucius Classroom". Our university has established profound cooperation and exchange relations with more than 150 well-known universities, scientific research institutions and well-known enterprises abroad.
Our school has constructed "Communication and Network Core Technology Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base", "Higher Intelligence and Network Service Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base", "Wireless Network Integration Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base", "Information Network System Construction and Integration Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base", "Information Network System Construction and Integration Innovation Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base". The "111" innovation and intellectual base of five countries, such as Di, introduced world-class academic masters and research scholars represented by Nobel Prize winner Jolles Alferov, and formed a strong international research team.
