Historical origin

Located at the intersection of East Chang'an Street and Wangfujing Commercial Street, Beijing Hotel is a famous five-star centuries-old shop, which was built in the early 20th century. In 1900, two Frenchmen opened a small pub in the east of the foreign barracks in Dongjiao Minxiang. They moved to the north of the barracks the following year and officially put up the sign of "Beijing Hotel". In 1903, the hotel was moved to the south entrance of Wangfujing, East Chang'an Street, where it is now located. In 1907, China-France Industrial Bank took over Beijing Hotel and changed it to Limited Company. The French management period was the first glorious period of Beijing Hotel. From the architectural style to the internal facilities, it marked that the hotel became the premier high-end hotel in Beijing. With the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Beijing Hotel was accepted and managed by the Kuomintang Peiping Government, and once became a high-level hostel specially for US troops. Until the liberation of Peiping in 1949, the fate of Beijing Hotel changed. At that time, the Beijing Hotel, which was subordinate to the Bureau of State Council Affairs, became an important place for state affairs and foreign affairs reception in New China and had a fairly high political status. In 1954 and 1974, under the kindly care of Premier Zhou, the Beijing Hotel was expanded twice, once a symbol of modernization and internationalization in Beijing. In the new era, Beijing Hotel is still the preferred place for important state activities and meetings. It witnesses the changes of the times in the dual mission of carrying hotel functions and special political identity. Nowadays, Beijing Hotel, with nearly 1000 modern rooms and 160,000 square meters of building area, has developed into a mature business luxury hotel. On December 17, 2006, the Beijing Hotel was officially designated as the Headquarters Hotel of the 2008 Olympic Family by the International Olympic Committee and the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee. During the Olympic Games, the Headquarters Hotel will be the main residence of the members of the Olympic Family, as well as the headquarters and command center of the International Olympic Committee.

Beijing Hotel in the New Century

In order to make Beijing Hotel more in line with the international standards of five-star hotels and provide more perfect facilities and services for guests, a large-scale renovation and expansion project was carried out from 1998 to 2000. After the overall renovation, the hotel will provide guests with all-round service of rooms, catering, exhibitions, entertainment and shopping with a brand-new look and modern service facilities. The total area of business will also be expanded from 138,000 square meters to 150,000 square meters.

Today's Development

Today's Beijing Hotel is a collection of all kinds of Chinese delicacies. Tan Jiacai is a unique official dish in Beijing. In 1958, with the care of Premier Zhou Enlai, Tan Jiacai settled down in Beijing Hotel. Apart from Tanjia cuisine, Sichuan cuisine, Huaiyang cuisine, Shanghai cuisine, Cantonese cuisine and other cuisines are leading the way in Beijing Hotel. The exquisite cuisine and elegant and comfortable dining environment complement each other.

In addition to Chinese cuisine, Beijing Hotel has more delicious delicacies from all over the world. The western restaurant in Beijing Hotel tastes exotic French food, which reminds people of the past time of Beijing Hotel. Japanese cuisine, which integrates Japanese culture and traditional cuisine, creates a strong flavor of Dongying culture.

Today, this century-old hotel, standing at the head of the new century, is showing the world its unique style of a five-star hotel with history, humanities, aesthetics and modern technology in an open attitude and vigorous vitality.

Sunshine corridor, such as a lively dynamic line, smoothly and naturally connects the old and new buildings with the hotel's own characteristics. The coexistence of history and modern, classical and emerging makes Beijing Hotel present an extraordinary style.

In the new century, with its new image, Beijing Hotel has successfully completed its transformation to a luxury business hotel. Today's Beijing Hotel extends the functions of recreation, business, exhibition, conference and other services. In the new millennium, a series of major conferences and activities have been welcomed in the grand banquet hall with a 12-metre telescopic platform, a modern lighting and audio system and 12-channel simultaneous interpretation function. In September 2000, the Sixth World Summit of Metropolitan Cities was held in the Grand Banquet Hall of Beijing Hotel. Soon afterwards, guests attending the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation were welcomed here. In 2001, the first APEC high-level lawsuit was held in the banquet hall of Beijing Hotel. The Beijing Hotel has welcomed countless historical celebrities and is still crowded with guests today. In June 2001, three tenors, Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras, stayed at the Beijing Hotel. They performed the voice of the century in the Forbidden City of Beijing.

This is a melody that makes the world intoxicated. With the moving melody, China spent a sleepless night. On this day, Beijing won the right to host the 29th Olympic Games in 2008. On this happy night, when people go back to the exciting process of Beijing's bid for the Olympic Games, they will not forget the contribution Beijing Hotel has made. On February 19, 2001, the IOC assessment team stayed in Beijing Hotel. They inspected the preparation conditions for Beijing's bid for the Olympic Games in detail. The service quality and hardware conditions of Beijing Hotel will directly affect the success of the bid. Before the end of the evaluation tour, they left such instructions. During our stay in Beijing, all the staff of Beijing Hotel provided us with warm and thoughtful service and wished Beijing success in bidding for the Olympic Games. On July 13, 2001, this wonderful wish came true. This night, Beijing was sleepless. The Beijing Hotel, which has traveled with the city for a century, can not extinguish the lights of the festival. New Beijing, new Olympic Games, Beijing is playing a leaping melody, and Beijing Hotel, which is closely related to Beijing's destiny, is standing at the tide of the century. It has gone through vicissitudes, but does not change the mission and responsibility entrusted by the times. In the historical and future perspective, Beijing Hotel is smiling to face a 21st century full of hope, opportunities and challenges.
